Fisherman's Cove, River Ranch Resort Airport, River Ranch (2RR)

River Ranch Resort has only one restaurant.  It’s easy to get to by boat or golf cart.  Fisherman’s Cove got its name from its location, not menu items.  It is located on a canal that is a favorite fishing spot for many of the guests and residents in the area.  The only fish/seafood on the menu was gouper and shrimp.

On Sundays, Fisherman’s Cove serves a breakfast buffet until noon.  We were there for lunch, but took a quick look at the buffet.   It contained fruit, pastries, scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, waffles, pancakes, and biscuits and gravy... all the basics.

Lunch does not start until 12:00 noon.  We had about a 15 minute wait due to the breakfast buffet still going on when we arrived.  We sat outside on the deck overlooking the canal.  We were able to watch some local boaters go by and fisherman on the banks.

The menu did not offer a lot of selection.  We tried the house specialty for an appetizer, “Gator in the grass”.  It was deep fried pieces of gator tail with dipping sauce on a bed of shredded lettuce.  The gator was good (fresh!), but we soon ran out of the spicy dipping sauce.  Other appetizers on the menu were chicken strips, onion rings and wings.

For lunch, my husband had the grouper sandwich.   It came on a hoagie roll with lettuce, tomato, onion and tartar sauce.  Although the portion was big it was a thin slice of grouper and a bit greasy.  It came with fries or cole slaw and a pickle.

I had the fried chicken salad that was advertised to come with honey mustard dressing (my favorite).  Unfortunately, when it came to the table I was advised that they were out of the honey mustard dressing (and it was too late to order something else), so I had to settle for my second choice, blue cheese, which turned out to be very good.  The salad was fresh with a generous helping of fried chicken strips.  Just make sure you ask for extra dressing due to the size of the salad.  Other lunch menu items included a burger, a barbeque pork sandwich, grilled chicken sandwich and Philly cheese steak sandwich.

The restaurant was truly “casual dining”.  Make sure you enjoy country music, as it is pumped out over the speakers at a healthy volume.  The waitress we had was pleasant but not very experienced.  We enjoyed our outdoor lunch that day at Fisherman’s Cove, River Ranch’s only restaurant.  It was more than adequate to fill our empty stomachs, but it probably won’t be a destination point for a meal in the future.
