Ocean Grill, Vero Beach (KVRB)

The Ocean Grill is located at 1060 Sexton Plaza, on the beach. We arrived a few minutes before the dining room opened and sat in the lounge while waiting on a table. This was good timing because they get busy quickly after opening. For more information about their menu and hours of operation you can visit them on the web at:

Built in the early to mid 1900's, the history of this restaurant, the storms, "Chicago gangsters" and German U-boats, make for an interesting read (? fact or fiction ?) and add to this restaurant's ambiance.

On our visit to the Ocean Grill, they offered a Escargot appetizer special which was absolutely wonderful and was consumed quicker than the camera could get a shot.

The salads were fresh and the house dressing was also excellent

For my dinner I took the recommendation of our server and selected Coquilles St. Jacques - a seafood casserole of shrimp, scallops, crab and mushrooms. It's then baked in a cream sauce and sprinkled with Parmesan (below).

My wife chose their "Treasured" steak, a Filet Mignon. It's a half-pound, center-cut, tenderloin served with béarnaise sauce. The fliet was also very good and cooked to perfection

The appetizer, salad, fresh baked bread and main course more than filled us... so... for dessert we took a slice of cheesecake to go (also very good). The meal was overall quite good, but also quite pricey, about $ 80.00 with tip for two.

The Ocean Grill makes for a pleasant and un-rushed dining experience. Watch the waves roll in off the Atlantic as you indulge yourself to a candlelight dinner.... and if you're not flying, be sure to sample a "Painkiller" (rum, pineapple, oj & coconut with a dash of nutmeg).
