Peppercorn's, Sebring Regional Airport, Sebring - KSEF

Submitted on June 1, 2008 @ 9:27 pm

After a fun filled morning of Lake Hopping in the Sebring area we decide to grab a bite to eat at Peppercorn's formally Sheri-annes at the sebring airport. The new FBO is beautiful a very impressive feat for such a small airport. The restaurant is in the FBO and a very casual and filled with pictures from the good ol days. Unfortunately The hamburgers were processed not fresh and the chicken sandwich is less than impressive. The Atmosphere here is a bit tense and unfriendly, I ask a gentleman what happened to the old restaurant that the girls ran and he was very short with me telling me they just left.. I ask who he was and he proceeded to tell me he was the "Executive Director" (Airport Manager)of the airport. Such a shame that a few bad eggs can ruin a day of fun and a beautiful airport. The $100 hamburger is overlooked most of the time in other places because the staff usually makes up for it in Friendliness. Pass on this one, grab the next.

Visited for lunch on Saturday, May 3 at 1:00 PM (during the regional aerobatics competition at KSEF). Restaurant is self seating, but most unoccupied tables (though cleared of dishes) were NOT wiped down, with food scraps and crumbs left on the tabletops... Server wiped it down after we were seated.

The menu was impressive but the execution was not. Asked to recommend one of two menu options, the waitress recommended the generously proportioned burger and fries for my girlfriend, and I ordered the cobb salad, which the waitress advised to be a chef salad due to an error in the printing of the menu.

The chef's salad was tasty but only after the spoiled olives were removed from the salad. Neither I nor my girlfriend could eat more than one bite of the burger which tasted awful. The fries were no better.

The value was poor. Prices higher than that charged for better food at nearby KOBE. Decor was very attractive and the large outdoor seating area is attractive. Service was ok although cleanliness was not. Quality/Taste were unacceptable. Except for the weekend gas price, KSEF left a bad taste in our mouths.

What an amazing menu. This is not your typical on-field restaurant. Any menu that features Havarti cheese, roasted red peppers, broccoli and cheddar soup and homemade greek salad dressing deserves special attention. The food is Excellent. The service is top notch. The prices are competitive with Denny's. Many on-field establishments know that they have a captive audience, and can get away with serving whatever and whenever they want. Please give this place a try.

FYI:
1 Chicken salad sandwich with havarti cheese on thick rye
1 havarti cheese, roasted red peppers onions on pump
1 greek salad
1 broccoli and cheddar soup
2 Ice teas
27 bucks.

Note: As of this writing, they are only open for breakfast and lunch. The owner is considering a dinner night, but thats not immediate.
