Downwind Cafe, Spruce Creek Fly In Community - 7FL6

Great food and excellent service. I personally enjoy the Downwind's plentiful breakfast. Spruce Creek's airfield info can be found on-line. Guest aircraft parking is designated with blue lines on the ramp area.

Runway Grille, Melbourne - KMLB

Stopping in after a great flight of approaches and holding, my friend I discovered that Melbourne is not the place to stop with options like KTIX so near by. The FBO and ramp were old and worn down. Two of the three flight planning computers didn't work, and the one what did was locked on software that can't be used to file. The food...

We took the 2min walk to the airline terminal next door and the Runway Grille. The terminal is very nice, but it ends there. The Runway Grille was understaffed, served me RANCID egg salad, and then tried to charge me the difference for a replacement cheeseburger since their egg salad was spoiled. It wound up taking 35min all told for a stromboli and a cheeseburger (both weren't at all memorable) to come out and we were the only two people there!

It was a depressing experience. I would highly recommend staying away from KMLB for a now $200 Hamburger! On the flip side, the employees were VERY nice and the sweet potato fries were great!

Across our northern border...
The Jekyll Island Club, Jekyll Island, Georgia - 09J

Yes. This is technically not a Florida restaurant but it is just across the border and is well worth the trip. Great little airport to fly into (09J), located on a peninsula jutting out into the marsh, and they have the RedBug electric cars that you can rent to cruise the island. The club is just about a quarter mile south of the airport and if you can make it there on Sunday for the brunch you will not regret the trip. Dress appropriately because it is a lunch buffet in the Grand Dining Hall of the classic old resort and the food fits the setting. A little pricey, but if you don't mind a $300.00 hamburger, this could be the place for you.
